This is my second post here and it really just is the second part of my moleskine. I can't wait until it's finished, I feel really restricted with the small pages in this. I really did love it at first, but now I'm looking for a bigger journal. Anyone have any suggestions? Particularly looking for shops in the U.K. Onto the journal!
x-files actor David Duchovny wrote a Princeton thesis titled, "The Schizophrenic Critique of Pure Reason in Beckett's Early Novels." haha even in middle school i knew we were kindred spirits.
Hey, I'm heading off to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic very, VERY early tomorrow morning and I just wanted to share a few more-recent journalings. One I finished tonight that's fairly simple that I really like but I'll save that for after the trip.
Paul and I just returned from the movie theater where we saw The Dark Knight.
It has definitely lived up to it's hype. Seeing as how it's Heath Ledger's final role (in a completed film, poor Terry Gilliam) you will expect people to rave about how amazing it was and how sad it is that such a promising actor is gone.
With all of that shit about his untimely death aside, he was, in fact, BRILLIANT, stunning, amazing, awesome and even more importantly believably dark in his role as the Joker (I would be saying all of this if he were still alive). I was expecting a decent film and I remember when I first heard about him being cast as the joker I was somewhat apprehensive but what he brought to the character was quite impressive.
I think it's safe to say that Heath Ledger stole the show from Christian Bale, as impossible as that may seem. Not to say Bale and the other slew of great actors weren't up to par, it's just that Ledger's performance was that good.
If I did a Top 100 Film Characters list, he'd definitely be at the top. Speaking of which...that's a good idea.. We all know how much I love making lists of things.
p.s. I don't think I need to tell you guys you should go see it, I'm sure a lot of you are already in the process.
The trailer for Watchmen makes me very sad. It's so painful to see a graphic novel like that get turned into another trying-too-hard-for-darkness wham-bam-kablooey Comix Book Movie.
It looks as if we have made our way through the week and right into the weekend. While I have to work, I hope you do not. I hope this weekend sees you doing loads of post-worthy interesting things. I quite nearly hope that you're getting up to too many grand antics to offer this post anything more than a glance. In summation, I'm wishing you well.
My days haven't been riddled with too many abnormal activities. I've been doing lots of design work (speaking of, check out this fantastic pair of illustrators), as well as workworkwork, and seeing Batman. Holy heck, it utterly superseded my original ho-hum expectations. The cast was across-the-board phenomenal, and Christian Bale. . .woe, I have harbored a crush on him for fourteen years. He does interviews in an American accent, which just amuses me to no end. His New York accent for the Today Show interview was so grating, I nearly loved him less.
Hello to all you moleskine users! I loveandadore my moleskine, however, last night I realized that the black leather has completely come away from the paper. Everything is still intact and I think I managed to fix it (for now). This happen to anyone else? Is it normal? Because no matter how much I love the journal, not exactly worth the $22 for something that, forty pages to the end, will end up falling apart. And, as I am almost finished this journal, anyone have any journals that they abslolutely love? I might give the moleskine another chance, but just in case... One more: I've been in Quebec for the last six weeks, and saving everything that I can find. How have you that have travelled managed the things for journalling? Created a new journal? Mix them into your daily journal?
Thanks for giving time! Keep up the amazing journalling. You guys are soooo inspiring!!
Not sure if this is qualifies as "advertising my personal project" but I'll take a chance and hope others find this worthwhile. Years ago I posted here about how "Pagan Poetry" evoked the City of the Ancients from Final Fantasy VII for me, for some reason ... anyway last month I finally sat me down with Windows Moviemaker and Avidemux and edited my first music video about the idea. Since it's a big file, it's worth it to scroll down to the lower right corner of the clip, under "Views" and click on "Watch in high quality." Hope you dig it!
Here's a journal page I did last night. I did most of this in bed last night while using my little table top easel on top of my breakfast-in-bed tray thingy. It worked pretty well. (I use the table-top easel so I don't have to look down while I work.)
The color looks a little flat in the scan . .. it's much richer in real-life.
Hey everyone. :) I've posted here many times before, but my style always changes so I don't blame you for not remembering me! My journal is very text-heavy, interjected with drawings and stuck-in bits of paper and so on. I usually post whole pages, but today I wanted to focus on the little drawings scattered throughout my pages. I can't draw. I am not an artist. But I love to draw, and I thought it was about time my little scribbles got some recognition. :p
This year I went to NYC in the fall to visit some museums and galleries and I took a new moleskine around to keep notes/sketches. Then I spent five weeks in Italy (I just got back on July 4th) and I brought my moleskine with me... I thought I'd share some of the more interesting pages from the New York trip from what I'm now considering my "Travel Journal." (I'll post the Italy ones later because there are just too many)
~Watchmen Trailer is leaked...and motherfucker does that shit look GOOD. DAMN GOOD! I can't express enough how much I enjoyed watching it. Doc Manhattan's sequences took my breath away...hell, ALL of them...all of the Watchmen characters looked amazing. The fight sequences, the entrances of characters...and motherfucking RORSCHACH. Jesus. They cast some amazing actors to portray these iconic figures...and yeah, I've read some journalers who've said that they don't think this book should EVER have been made into a feature film. I think that's fucking stupid. Seriously. It's just a graphic novel. YES. JUST A GRAPHIC NOVEL. A great graphic novel, but really, there's nothing wrong with it being made into a movie. A DAMN good movie from the looks of the trailer. Why shouldn't it be made into a flick? Because Alan Moore didn't want it made? Whatever. Alan Moore can blow me. He writes great works, but he ain't a God. And thankfully, people ignored his bitching about how it shouldn't be made and went ahead and did it. V for Vendetta was a great fucking movie, which he also didn't want made. Alan, just let it fucking go. Enjoy yourself a little bit. Stop being a moody bastard. That era is over.
~Elektra's death revealed in Mighty Avengers...and holy fuck, she didn't go down easy. If you haven't read the issue, you should stop reading this now. She took down not one, not two but THREE Super Skrulls. THREE of them bad motherfuckers with multiple powers. It took them to wear her down for the fourth one to kill her. Jesus. Of course, there are folks who think that this is good and just because of Frank Miller and his shit over Elektra being brought back from the dead. Fuck that. She's a comic book character, and, as such, if Marvel wants to bring her back, they can. Does it make for good comics? Not all the time. It all depends on the writer. A good writer can do anything, hell, Grant Morrison made Cyclops freakin' interesting! Would I get pissed if I killed off one of my characters and someone brought them back later through a crap ass way? :: shrugs :: Maybe...but probably not. Then again...it's just a character on paper.
:: sigh ::
Sometimes, shit is taken way too seriously. But that's just my opinion.
~Moving is going well. I'm tired as fuck. By the way, the Condo project is still on. I need to contact all the artists this week to see who is still willing to contribute to my Wall of Inspiration. I haven't had a chance to finish inking this weeks Sleazy Pizza, mostly because I'm working like mad, and then coming home and working on moving. It's taxing, to say the least. But fear not, Sleazy will be up next week, still keeping to a somewhat bi-weekly basis.
There's more...but that'll have to be for another time. I'm done for the night, and need to sleep. I have work at 6.
